A block bet is a relatively small bet intended to influence the price of continuing or reaching showdown. It is commonly made out of position with a medium-strength hand. Opponents can still raise, so it does not guarantee a cheap showdown.
Example of Block Bet:
You hold second pair on the river and bet $15 into $100. You hope an opponent with a similar hand calls rather than making a much larger bet after you check.
