PokerStars is undergoing another major restructuring after parent company Flutter Entertainment confirmed plans for organizational changes that will result in job cuts across its global operations.

The move is part of Flutter’s long-term strategy to integrate PokerStars more closely with its wider portfolio of gaming brands while adapting to increasing regulatory pressure and a rapidly evolving online gambling market.
PokerStars Confirms Global Restructuring
Flutter has confirmed that a number of roles within PokerStars will be affected as the company continues what it describes as an “ongoing transformation programme.”
The restructuring is expected to impact employees across multiple international offices, including locations in:
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- Europe
The company has not disclosed how many positions will be eliminated.
In a statement, PokerStars said the changes are designed to better integrate its online poker business with Flutter’s broader network of brands while creating a more locally focused operating model.
The operator added that it had sought to reduce the impact on employees by exploring redeployment opportunities wherever possible, while promising support for those whose roles are affected.
Why Is Flutter Making Job Cuts?
The announcement comes during a challenging period for online poker and the wider iGaming industry.
Operators have faced increasing pressure from several directions, including:
- Higher gambling taxes in key regulated markets.
- Growing competition from cryptocurrency-based gaming platforms.
- The emergence of prediction markets.
- Increasing investment required to combat bots, AI-assisted play, and other integrity threats.
For PokerStars specifically, the brand has been working through a broader strategic transformation since Flutter acquired The Stars Group in 2020.
PokerStars Has Been Changing Behind the Scenes
Flutter’s plans have been visible for some time.
In its 2025 annual report, the company revealed a $725 million impairment relating to the PokerStars trademark following a review of the business.
The report outlined Flutter’s intention to move away from PokerStars’ legacy technology platform in favor of greater integration with technology and marketing resources already used across the Flutter group.
The strategy is aimed at reducing costs, improving operational efficiency, and creating shared technology across brands rather than maintaining separate systems.
Online Poker Faces a Different Landscape
PokerStars remains one of the biggest names in online poker, but today’s market looks very different from the boom years of the mid-2000s.
While live poker continues to attract record-breaking tournament fields, online operators face a more competitive environment than ever before.
Stricter regulation, changing player habits, and concerns surrounding AI-assisted play have forced operators to invest heavily in security, compliance, and responsible gaming measures while competing against newer crypto-focused poker platforms.
What Happens Next?
Flutter has not announced when the restructuring process will conclude or how many employees will ultimately be affected.
For players, the company has given no indication that the changes will impact the PokerStars platform itself. Instead, the restructuring appears focused on streamlining operations and supporting Flutter’s wider strategy of sharing technology and resources across its gaming brands.
Whether these changes help PokerStars strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive online poker market remains to be seen, but the latest restructuring signals that Flutter believes further evolution is necessary as the industry continues to change.
