Poker Type has expanded its poker terminology guide to 500 terms, doubling the glossary from its previous total of 250. The update adds definitions and practical examples covering betting, tournament play, hand analysis, live rules and online poker.

The expanded A-Z poker terminology guide is available now. Readers can search for a phrase, browse by letter or use the subject filters to find terms connected to the part of the game they want to understand.
From table talk to modern poker strategy
Poker vocabulary can make a straightforward hand sound much more complicated than it is. A commentator might describe a player as card dead, discuss an uncapped range and then call the eventual all-in a cooler, with little explanation for anyone watching their first final table.
The new entries cover that everyday language alongside more technical concepts. Big Slick, Cowboys and Ducks explain familiar starting-hand nicknames, while terms such as linear range, card removal and equity denial address the language used in strategy discussions.
Each addition includes a short definition followed by an example showing how the term works in a poker situation. The aim is to give readers enough context to understand the phrase without making them work through a full strategy article first.
What the 250 new entries cover
The expansion builds on the existing glossary rather than replacing the original entries, taking the total to 500 distinct published terms.
Position and preflop entries include Lojack, Under the Gun Plus One, Raise First In and Three-Bet Pot. Betting additions explain actions and sizing language such as check-call, bet-fold, half-pot bet and geometric bet sizing.
The tournament section adds Bubble Factor, Risk Premium, Push-Fold and Bagging Chips. These entries help readers follow discussions about short stacks, payout pressure and the stages of a multi-day event.
Draws and game variants receive broader coverage too. New entries include clean outs, dirty outs, nut straight draws, Five-Card Omaha, Six-Card Omaha and Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw, alongside the vocabulary used in stud and split-pot games.
Understanding the idea behind the phrase
Knowing a definition is useful, but the example often explains why the distinction matters. Raw equity and equity realization in poker, for example, describe different aspects of a hand’s value.
A hand can have a share of the possible outcomes against an opponent’s range without reaching every showdown. Position, future bets and the ability to continue playing affect how much of that potential value a player can capture.
The glossary also includes minimum defense frequency explained, value-to-bluff ratio and mixed strategy. Those entries provide a starting point for understanding the terminology behind a discussion, while leaving room for the wider context that any real hand requires.
Live rules and online poker language
The additions extend beyond strategy. Live-play entries cover exposed cards, misdeals, action out of turn, short all-in raises and the oversized chip rule, with explanations that recognise the importance of the rules used by the venue or event.
Online poker entries include multi-tabling, fast-fold poker, hand replayers and equity calculators. The glossary also explains poker bots, datamining and real-time assistance, helping readers distinguish between different types of software and activity.
How to use the expanded glossary
Readers who already know the phrase can enter it in the search box and open the matching term. The alphabetical menus provide another route, while Quick Find groups terms under Poker Basics, Betting Terms, Tournament Poker, Strategy, Hands & Draws and Online Poker.
Individual term pages provide a direct reference for readers returning to a particular concept. The expanded guide can be used alongside a hand review, tournament broadcast or poker article whenever an unfamiliar phrase interrupts the action.
