Ketola arrives with momentum after beating Wiktor “Limitless” Malinowski 3-1 in their latest series of heads-up matches in Jeju and finishing approximately $6 million ahead. Only two days earlier, Monarch’s return to million-dollar heads-up poker had already brought his extraordinary 2025 battles with Dan “Jungleman” Cates back into focus.
Now the stakes are going considerably higher.
Patrik Antonius Has Been Playing Poker’s Biggest Games for 20 Years
For viewers who discovered high-stakes poker through livestreams, Antonius may look like another elite professional stepping into Ketola’s increasingly spectacular series of challenges. His history at these stakes stretches back much further.
The 45-year-old Finn emerged during the poker boom and won the European Poker Tour Baden Main Event in 2005. He became an enduring presence in the biggest live cash games and online games of the following decade, eventually building a reputation as one of the most formidable cash players of his generation.
Online poker produced one of his defining moments in November 2009. Antonius won a $1.35 million Pot-Limit Omaha pot from the then-mysterious “Isildur1,” later revealed as Viktor Blom, setting what was at the time an online poker record.
More than a decade later, Antonius was still breaking records.
In 2023, he won a $1.978 million pot against Eric Persson on PokerGO’s No Gamble, No Future, which was then the largest cash-game pot broadcast on a US livestream. The scale of modern televised high-stakes cash poker has continued to grow since then, but Antonius was helping move those boundaries long before eight-figure pots became possible.
His tournament record is substantial too. Hendon Mob currently lists Antonius with $34,675,694 in live tournament earnings, first on Finland’s all-time money list and 32nd worldwide, with a career-best tournament cash of $5.13 million.
That record payday came when Antonius won the $200,000 Triton Invitational in Monte Carlo in November 2024. He defeated Vladimir Korzinin heads-up to collect $5.13 million from a $20.4 million prize pool, only months after becoming a member of the Poker Hall of Fame.
From Mentor and Invitee to $20 Million Opponents
There is another connection between Friday’s opponents that makes the match considerably more interesting.
When Ketola was establishing himself at Triton in late 2024, the series described him as someone learning from Antonius. Ketola then selected his fellow Finn as his professional partner for the $200,000 Triton Invitational, an invitation Antonius converted into that $5.13 million victory.
Ketola’s own tournament career remains much shorter. Hendon Mob lists him with $5,035,923 in recorded live earnings, seventh on Finland’s all-time list, with his largest tournament cash coming from a $2.97 million runner-up finish to Korzinin in the $150,000 Triton event in Monte Carlo in 2024.
Those numbers only tell a small part of the Monarch story because his biggest games have increasingly taken place outside tournaments.
Monarch Has Turned Heads-Up Poker Into an Event
Ketola became one of poker’s biggest stories in 2025 by repeatedly challenging elite players for millions of dollars at a time. He faced Kayhan Mokri and Dan Cates in Cyprus before moving the action to Triton Jeju, where opponents included Malinowski, Alex Foxen and Bjorn Li.
Against Cates, Ketola won two of the opening three matches before Jungleman swept the final three as the buy-ins climbed to €5 million, €5 million and €6 million per player. Cates ultimately finished the six-match confrontation approximately €13 million ahead, around $15 million at the time.
Jeju then produced some of the largest televised pots poker had ever seen. Ketola won a $10.99 million pot from Alex Foxen in 2025 and later dragged a $12.7 million pot against Bjorn Li, while his latest visit has already resulted in that $6 million overall victory against Malinowski.

The match adds another extraordinary attraction to a Triton Jeju II festival already built around some of the largest tournament buy-ins in poker. Antonius and Ketola are also scheduled to become teammates again for Saturday’s $200,000 Triton Invitational, making the timing of their confrontation particularly unusual.
Before that happens, the former mentor and his high-stakes countryman will sit on opposite sides of the table with $20 million in play.
For Ketola, it is another attempt to prove he can beat the legends he has deliberately sought out. For Antonius, it is something remarkably familiar: another enormous cash game, another television audience and another opportunity to make poker history more than 20 years after he first reached the top.
