Value Bet
A value bet is made because you expect worse hands to call often enough to make betting more profitable than checking. The goal is to extract additional chips from hands you are ahead of.
Example
You hold A-K on A-10-6-3-2 and believe an opponent will call a river bet with A-Q or A-J. Betting is primarily for value.
