Is Subscription-Based 3-Bet Club the Future of Online Poker?

Online poker rewards have traditionally followed a familiar formula: play more, generate more rake and climb through a loyalty program.

CoinPoker is trying something different.

Its new 3-Bet Club introduces a paid membership model to online poker, giving players additional rewards and features for a fixed $35 monthly subscription. The waitlist opened on August 3 ahead of the full launch on August 17.

It raises an interesting question for the industry: could subscription-based rewards become the next evolution of online poker loyalty programs?

What Is CoinPoker’s 3-Bet Club?

3-Bet Club doesn’t replace CoinPoker’s existing CoinRewards program. Instead, players who subscribe receive an additional layer of rewards on top of what they already earn.

The concept is closer to the subscription models now common across entertainment, gaming and retail. Players pay a predictable monthly fee in exchange for benefits that would otherwise be unavailable.

For CoinPoker players, those benefits include additional rakeback, gameplay-based reward multipliers, temporary boosts, tournament discounts and members-only features.

The important difference is that players can decide whether the numbers make sense for them rather than having to participate in the program.

Members Get Extra Rakeback

The foundation of 3-Bet Club is its Rewards Boost.

Members receive an additional 10% back on cash game and tournament fees, with rewards credited each Monday.

That increases to 12.5% for All-In or Fold and Bomb Pot games.

For regular players, this is where the economics of the $35 subscription become interesting. Generate enough eligible fees during a month and the additional rewards could theoretically cover the membership cost before the other benefits are considered.

CoinPoker has also built a dashboard showing members how much value they have received compared with their subscription fee.

Playing More Aggressively Can Increase the Rewards

Perhaps the most unusual part of 3-Bet Club is its Action Multiplier.

Instead of rewarding players purely according to volume, CoinPoker also looks at how they play.

Members can unlock a 12.5% Rewards Boost by meeting one weekly gameplay target, while hitting two or three increases it to 15%.

The three targets are:

  • 3-Bet percentage of at least 13%
  • Effective PFR/VPIP ratio of at least 0.85
  • Effective VPIP of at least 35%

Players with an effective VPIP above 40% can unlock the second multiplier tier through that target alone.

Progress can be monitored through the poker client, with the qualifying statistics resetting each Monday.

It’s an intriguing approach because the poker room isn’t simply incentivizing players to put in more hours. It’s explicitly rewarding action.

Power Ups Add Another Layer

Members also receive five Power Ups each month.

Activating one provides a 1.5x boost to eligible rewards for 12 hours, allowing players to choose when they want to maximize the value of a session.

The 12-hour period continues running once activated, so timing becomes part of the equation. Players who know they’re planning a particularly active day can potentially extract considerably more value than someone using them randomly.

This adds a gamified element to what would otherwise be a relatively straightforward rakeback subscription.

Tournament Players Get Discounted Entries

3-Bet Club isn’t solely aimed at cash game grinders.

Tournament Discounts reduce the first buy-in for selected tournaments without reducing the prize money a member can win.

CoinMasters SHIBA events are among the tournaments included, giving regular MTT players another way of recovering some or all of their monthly membership cost.

With CoinPoker’s Global Online Poker Championship beginning August 23, tournament players will also have plenty of reasons to be active shortly after 3-Bet Club launches.

More Than Just Rakeback

CoinPoker has included several smaller membership benefits that don’t directly translate into dollars.

Subscribers receive exclusive avatars, emojis and throwables, an alternative app icon and a distinctive gold avatar border at the tables.

There’s also priority customer support and access to a private Discord community.

These additions are unlikely to convince someone to spend $35 by themselves. They do, however, reinforce the idea that CoinPoker is selling a membership experience, rather than simply charging players for another rakeback tier.

Does Paying for Poker Rewards Make Sense?

That’s likely to be the biggest question players have about 3-Bet Club.

For a recreational player who only plays occasionally, paying every month for additional rewards may be difficult to justify. For someone generating significant rake or regularly entering tournaments, the calculation could look very different.

That’s also what makes the model interesting from a wider online poker perspective.

Traditional loyalty programs often require players to reach certain volume thresholds before the best rewards become available. Subscription programs potentially reverse that relationship: pay a relatively small fixed amount upfront and immediately gain access to better rewards.

The idea isn’t unprecedented outside poker. Paid memberships offering discounts, enhanced rewards and premium services have become commonplace across other digital industries.

If players respond positively, there’s little reason competing poker operators couldn’t experiment with similar models.

Could Poker Subscriptions Become More Common?

There are potential advantages for both sides.

Operators gain predictable recurring subscription revenue and another way to retain regular players. Players get a transparent monthly cost and can calculate whether the additional rewards they receive justify paying it.

The risk is equally obvious. Poker players are already highly sensitive to rake and reward changes, and introducing another payment only works if players believe they’re receiving noticeably more value in return.

CoinPoker will therefore provide an interesting test case.

The 3-Bet Club waitlist is already open, with the first 100 players offered their first month free. High-stakes poker personality Jean-Robert Bellande has also promoted the upcoming membership on social media.

The full launch follows on August 17.

Whether other poker rooms eventually follow CoinPoker down the subscription route will depend on how players respond. But if $35 memberships start producing demonstrably better value for regular players, subscription-based poker rewards could become much more than a one-room experiment.
